2013 Symposium - Final Report

About 2013 Recreation for Mental Health Symposium:

The Recreation and Mental Health Symposium was the first time in Nova Scotia that practitioners, policy makers, and researchers across mental health and recreation/active living sectors, had come together in one forum. It was all the more powerful because of the inclusion of self-advocates living with mental health concerns, both as delegates at the symposium and as performers sharing their experiences of living with mental illness. The result was identification of shared areas of interest and concern. Two days of presentations and conversations encouraged supported knowledge sharing and collaborative planning regarding the role of recreation (therapeutic and community) and active living in promoting and supporting the mental well-being of all Nova Scotians, including persons living with mental health challenges.
